I can help!
As you think about going back to school after winter break (and having to wear real pants)-I can help! (Okay I can’t help with the pants)😉
But I CAN help you with January writing prompts! Your writing activity for the first day will be all planned!
Here’s how to use January writing prompts
First, we know students will have lots to share after their break. At your morning meeting, let students share their thoughts, ideas and opinions about winter break. This can be done in whole group or with partners. To focus their comments and to help them prepare for writing, you can use the January writing prompts.
Next, review the word bank (included in the resource) with students so they can be confident in their spelling. Having a word bank provides high support for spelling which means you can have high expectations for quality work. You could also add other words that your students might need as they write.
Then decide which prompts to use -you can choose or let students choose their own prompt. You could have everyone do one writing piece together. There are 6 prompts total with differentiated options. You can use the other prompts throughout the week, in your writing center, during independent writing or for early finishers.
Finally let students write and illustrate. Again, each prompt comes with an illustration option. When they are finished, they can also share with a partner. You can display their writing on your January bulletin board.
