One of my favorite parts of the day is reading aloud to my students. I read anchor texts for content areas or holidays, chapter books to help students to discover a new series and I try to read from our class chapter book each day.
Every year, I share some treasured holiday read alouds.
Let me introduce you to one of my favorites for Valentine’s day.
Slugs in Love – this is a charming February read aloud you can use throughout the month.
This delightful story is about two slugs who are determined to find each by writing love poems. Not only is this story unusual (how many love stories do you know about slugs?) but it’s also about determination!
Despite challenges and the fact that all slugs look “brownish” Herbie and Marylou are creative in their problem solving to try to find each other and live happily ever after.
In order to make the most of this read aloud, I read it the first time for enjoyment. Then I use it to teach literacy and social skills. My students love hearing this story again and again.
I created this February read aloud resource to help other teachers share this wonderful book with their students.
