Hello teacher friend,
Do you need to review your classroom management guide – you know your expectations, routines and procedures?
Keep reading for steps to review or even reset your classroom management.
When should you use these steps? After a break, a long weekend or anytime your classroom is not running smoothly.
These 3 steps are essential in creating a successful classroom managment guide. They should be completed in order, however you can shorten each step as necessary.
STEPS TO REVIEW YOUR CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Step 1 Review:
What parts of your classroom management are going well? When or what parts of the day run smoothly? Make note of those times.
What parts of your classroom management aren’t going well? When or what parts of the day take too long to transition or are too noisy or students simply don’t know what to do? Make note of those times too.
Step 2 Reflect: For the parts that are going well in your classroom management, how can you duplicate that success? What did you do to help that routine or procedure to run smoothly?
For the parts that aren’t going well is it because of the schedule (not enough time?); systems (is traffic flow a problem?); expectations (they aren’t clear enough?) or something else? Once you determine why something isn’t working in your classroom management, then work on finding a solution.
Step 3 Take Action: Finally, for each expectation, routine or procedure that needs to be reset ask yourself:
What do I want the students to do? (and not do)
What should it look and sound like?
How will we know when the expectation has been met?
